John at some point in his life moved to work in a quarry in the South of England, staying there until it was worked out. He then returned to Northumberland where he got a job working at a new quarry to the East of Morpeth. The quarry owners decided to build a village around this new quarry so that all the workers would have somewhere to live, (believe the village name was Borthal, though no record of it can be found). Correction House Lane, Alnwick, Northumberland. Previously called Kitty Lane; when the House of Correction was built in 1807, the alleyway was called Correction House Lane (leading to the extensive Correction House Yard). When you walk down this lane towards the Market Square, the backs of the main street buildings show different textures, stones and windows. One window has incorporated an ornate 16th century Abbey Spoil above it. Turks Head Hotel, Alnwick, Northumberland. The Turks Head was a large Inn in Boodgate, erected between 1774 and 1827. The building was described as having smooth grey ashlar fronts. It had older buildings behind it, one of these was a Theatre, and the plays were advertised by the Inn. The right hand section of the Turks Head building (which was a projecting wing with a rounded corner) became part of the Louvre Cafe in the early 1900's
