Corporal John Phillipson Robson

John Phillipson Robson born 12 October 1895 Longhorsley, Northumberland.

Son of George Robson of Long Terrace, Netherwitton, and Ann Ridley of Hartburn who married in 1878. George a Mole Catcher & Farmer.

John was one of 4 brothers who served in WW1

In 1901 John is living at Longlea Netherwitton with his parents and siblings. 
By 1911 he his working on Longlea farm.
In 1921 John is still at Longlea working as a Mole Catcher. His brother William is registered as the head of the family.
In 1926 they are living at Coal Houses Netherwitton, John charging £3 0s 0d for mole killing.
By 1939 John and Eleanor are still living in Netherwitton village with their children, John the local Mole Catcher. John is also a ARP Warden.

Eleanor Bertram Young in 1921 Morpeth.

Military:

The Kings Royal Rifle Corps 5th Battalion.
He was wounded in the leg 15 Sept 1916.
Medically discharged on 3 Nov 1917.

Whilst serving in WW1 John was Shot in the leg and was close to death. Luckily he survived his injuries and went on to also serve in WW11.

Netherwhitton Man Wounded.
W.R. Robson, Longlea, Netherwhitton, has received official news that his brother, Rifleman J.P. Robson, was wounded in the leg in action on September 15th, and is now in the 5th Northern General Hospital, Leicester. Rifleman Robson was well known in the wrestling arena, and as an athlete at sports meetings in the county. 30/9/1916

Death:

1966 in the Tynemouth district.
