Private John Thomas Varnham
John Thomas Varnham born 15 April 1898 at Howick, Northumberland.
The second Son of Albert VARNHAM and Susan Crozier of Embleton, Lesbury, Northumberland. Then of White House, Ewesley, near Morpeth (Sett Maker)
John was one of nine siblings.
Military:
Enlisted on 15 November 1916 at Morpeth, Northumberland.
Served with the Expeditionary Force in France from March 1917. Wounded at Loos in the following June & invalided home.
Re-joined his regiment in France in November. Taken prisoner at Bullecourt on 21 March 1918.
Died:
13th August 1918 a prisoner of War, at Essen Hospital, Germany.
Buried or commemorated at COLOGNE SOUTHERN CEMETERY XV. A. 52. Germany
