David Abell Wood

David Abell Wood born 2 Feb 1925 Lewisham, London.

Son of Ernest John Wood and Gladys Hope Lancaster

Wood left Wolverhampton in 1967 to run a smallholding in Leominster, but was soon warden and parish priest of a multi disciplinary and ecumenical centre in Killingworth on the outskirts of Newcastle. There he spent the next 18 years. developing a ministry of healing as much for individuals as for a community which had been uprooted from the inner city. Ho became a familiar. much loved and needed figure with his pony and trap among the tower blocks.

At 63 he left Newcastle for Mitford in Northumberland. and became chaplain to the Northgate Hospital in Mor. peth. His last four years were spent in retirement in Northumberland, sorting out people and animals with equal vig. our, and writing a book of poems.

He is survived by a son and a daughter Anthony Horley David Abell Wood. priest. born February 2. 1925 died December 4. 1997 Soper, Methodist leader, pacifist and broadcaster.
