George Thompson

George Thompson born 9 June 1946 in Willington Quay Wallsend.

Son of Joseph Thompson and Eliza Alderson. He was one of 8 siblings.

He spent a lot of his childhood years living with his uncle Alex Alderson due to a strained relationship with his father (His father disputed his legitimatacy end of WW2, DNA proves he is his fathers son as his mother always claimed).

 

Married:

He first married June Elizabeth Leighton in 1966 in Tynemouth district. They had 3 Sons.


Working on the Taxis in North Shield he met Barbara Ann McMillan. After many years together they went on to marry on 17 October 1989 in Morpeth Registry Office.

Geordie was stepfather to Barbara's children. They also had legal guardianship of his Brother Thomas's two Children stoping them going into the care system, bringing them all up as his own.

 

Military:

In his younger years Geordie was a Driver in the Royal British Army.


In the early 1980s Geordie and his wife Barbara moved to No.1 Agricultural Cottage's in Netherwitton moving from Hill Top Longwitton.


Whilst living in the Village Geordie worked for the Robsons as a Builders Labour for many years.

He later worked as a Driver at Scots Gaps Haulier & Auto Recovery Depot.

Geordie spent a lot of his weekends as a mechanic to the Scott family who were close friends of the family, attending Motocross events supporting their 2 competing sons.


He was on the Forestburn Gate darts team and dabbled with leek growing for a while.

 

They lived in the Village for 20 years, his wife Barbara worked a while at Nunnykirk School and also Gallowhill School as Cook & Domestic, In October 2001 they decided to sell up to join the Caravan and Camping Club Site as site managers.

They retired in approx 2013 at Mullach Cottage, Dingwall, Scotland and moved to a cottage in Newcastleton, Roxburghshire to enjoy their retirement years.

:

16 March 2022 at Kirndean Cottage, Newcastleton

His ashes are intered beside his Brother Tommy, and back to back with his Mother Eliza and elder brother Alfie at Holycross Cemetery Wallsend.
